The Questions You Need to Ask

The first question you need to ask yourself is why do you want your child to lose weight?

Are you unhappy with their weight?
Are you unhappy with their figure?
Will you really feel happier just because they lose weight?
Do they want to lose weight?

Only you can answer these questions and it is only once you do that your weight loss will start to become successful.

The second question you need to ask is how you are going to lose weight. You can lose weight by going on a crash diet. You can also lose weight by eating roughly what you eat now but by exercising more.

It is important that any diet is moderated as some "crash" diets can be harmful to your childs body and will end up doing more harm than good.

It is also important that when they exercise they start off gradually and then begin to train more once they feel confident within themselves. If they do try and train too hard too fast they will find that you will soon give up and your weight loss will not succeed.

So you need to decide why you want your child to lose weight and how you are going to get them to lose it. Once you have done this you will see the pounds falling off them.

Most fat kids have emotional problems and/or bad parents.

Our daughter wants to lose weight but gets mad when we limit her sugar intake. She's 12 and probably needs to lose about 10 lbs. She is in swim team, tennis, soccer and loves to be active...the problem is, is that she is always hungry & we can't be watching her every minute of the day. Her dad is overweight and I think she'll always have that tendency. I don't care if she's skinny but I'd like her to be healthy. Any ideas on how to get her on board with healthy eating without pushing her into some kind of eating disorder? I don't want her to think she's obese but we have diabetes in our family and I'd like her to avoid it.

I disagree with your questions, only because they lead to obsessing over food and weight, which can back fire and lead to control issues over food and weight, and possibly Bulemia and anorexia.

Yes, many kids are suffering from this devastation, there are many 'whys', yet as more and more focus is placed on weight issues, counting calories and nutrients, and exercise, the amount of Obese kids continues to increase.
Is this possibly because these terms can be considered as negative, difficult and expensive by the families most in need.

Getting kids more physcially active, is easy and does not include expensive trainings. But it does take creativity and consistent rules imposed by the parents.

However, the solution is quite easy, as all parents need to do is love their kids a little bit more by feeding them less prepackaged junk, prepared foods and fast foods. Homemade love is a powerful entity and many meals can be prepared in minutes and the cooked.

You talk about school food, yet many of us were given the same school food options as today, only we did not get yogurt or a small salad options. However, we did have mandatory PE twice per week through 9th grade, and we had Home Ec teachers teaching about food, food prep and healthy choices.
Today these mandatory classes are non-existent, unless privately paid for outside of the public school grounds.

There will be a new Cookbook coming out in October, which subtly teaches and guides parents toward healthier choices of food and activities with ease, flavor and affordability. The title:
Love More, Feed Less

Losing weight is a obsession with many people and your article speaks to the heart of the problem. Losing weight is what every parent should want for their children but they must ask the right questions.
Thank you Michael for your insight on child obesity

I am a former special education teacher and I wrote a children's picture book that tackles the issue of childhood obesity. Hunka Chunka Monkey Shapes Up entertains children without being preachy. It places a simple truth as a foundation in their hearts.....to cut back on their favorite snack, become active and make new friends.

Chris Powell of ABC's Extreme Makeover: Weight Loss Edition reads my book to his children every night. He stated on his FaceBook, "The kids are requesting Hunka Chunka Monkey Shapes Up for their bedtime story tonight....AGAIN! This is the third in a row, but I love it. What a great message of healthy living for children:). Nicely done, Sam E Bromley!" Chris's wife, Heidi Powell, used such words as 'amazing' and 'brilliant' when describing my story! I am excited about getting this message out. You can go to YouTube.com and type in my book's name: Hunka Chunka Monkey Shapes Up and see a brief message about my story! Please pass this on for all to see and partner with me and let us stop the obesity problem in America by encouraging the very young to skip, run and jump their way to a better life and a better future!

I think all we need is a long term solution for this Obesity problem and each one of us must responsible to what ever actions we do since those are the main reason why we become obese. The only thing that we need to do right now is to fight it in order for us all to have a better and much happier life ahead. Gastric Bypass? does anyone here consider it as the best solution? But I got from a review that says "Roca Labs is safer than gastric bypass surgery". It's a good news right? I got this information from this link- youtube.com/user/RocaLabsReviews.
